Paddle boarding is a blast — a blast to your core, that is. Almost every muscle group is tested to the extreme, which is why it’s best to find a calm spot when you’ve only begun to learn what’s SUP.
Thankfully, this gorgeous city has enough chill spots with beautiful backdrops for you to enjoy. Here are a few of our favourites:
Jericho Beach
Once a hidden gem, Jericho Beach has become one of Vancouver’s most popular paddle boarding destinations — and for good reason. The beach area itself is relatively flat and boasts easy access, which means you don’t have to haul your gear a great distance before you hit the water.
Kitsilano Beach
If you know what’s up, you’ll know that the paddle boarding trip between Jericho and Kitsilano Beaches is an amazing way to get a gander at the scenery — both landscape and otherwise. This is also a hotspot for those SUPpers who like to chill out with a yoga sesh on the water.
Deep Cove
Only 30 minutes from downtown, Deep Cove in North Vancouver is a renowned paddler’s paradise due to its sheltered waters. It’s also a sensory overload. As you paddle along the coastline, you’ll spot secluded beaches, private islands, stunning mountain backdrops and the Pacific Northwest’s majestic wildlife, including seals and eagles galore.
More To It Than Paddling
Don’t get us wrong, we love the adrenaline rush from a good SUP session, but there’s a lot more you can do with a paddle board in tow, including:
- SUP yoga, Pilates and other workout classes
- SUP surfing
- SUP snorkeling — reach unreal spots by paddling out
